Jacob's Well, Nablus
Sister Farm Market grew out of conversations among participants in the first Women's Witness Trip. We wondered what we could do in a practical way to support the women we met who were working so hard to make a better life for themselves and their families. Many of us are engaged in our respective faith community's peace and justice work and see clear opportunities for promoting these gospel imperatives in the annual parish fairs, fund-raisers, auctions, conventions, and other venues available for sharing information and offering products for sale. Fair Trade makes our hearts sing, and creates a "win-win" opportunity for us to promote organic produce from the land of milk and honey and the beautiful hand-work of traditional artisans, while engaging in acts of education, outreach, and activism and advocacy. "From Women's Hands to Women's Hands" is our motto and represents our passion.
We believe that women's hands can connect for peace across cultural, structural, and economic dividing walls. We believe that women standing together in solidarity with each other can create a profound witness for peace in Israel/Palestine. Sister Farm Market, Inc. has a threefold purpose: To engage in charitable, educational, and advocacy activities supporting peace and justice in Israel/Palestine; to assist women farmers and artisans in Israel/Palestine to expand their market in the United States; and to foster interpersonal interaction between women in the United States and women residing in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Hebron, Nablus, Ramallah, and other locations by organizing travel opportunities for women of the United States to learn about the struggles of women entrepreneurs and peacemakers in Israel/Palestine.
